According to Nan Kathryn Fuchs, PhD, alternative health physician says now the FDA wants to act like the last 17 years never happened. The agency has drafted a proposal to regulate what it calls New Dietary Ingredients. If this proposal is implemented, some of the most effective nutrients you take will be pulled from the market. Nutrients like resveratrol … ubiquinol CoQ10 … bacopa … strontium … and more.
But that’s not all. Under these guidelines, the FDA can define almost anything as a “new” dietary ingredient. For example:
• If a supplement includes more of an ingredient than was used 17 years ago – eve something like Vitamin “C”, it’s new.
• If an ingredient uses an ingredient at a different “life stage” – such as using ripe rather than non-ripe apples, it’s “new”.
• If a supplement duplicates an ingredient in a laboratory rather than extracting it from food – even though it’s chemically identical – it’s “new.”

So what would happen to all these “new” ingredients? The manufacturers would have to take them off the market until they could prove the ingredients are safe — even if those ingredients have been safely used for 17 years!
Why It’s Nearly Impossible to Comply
What kind of proof is the FDA demanding? According to the guidelines, many companies would have to conduct animal studies using a dosage that’s 1,000 times the typical dose.
I’m not kidding you. It’s right there in black and white on the FDA’s website. The FDA wants vitamin makers to do studies for a full year, at 1,000 times the typical dose.
So a fish-oil manufacturer would have to conduct a one-year study where animals are force-fed the human equivalent of 240,000 milligrams of fish oil each and every day! This outlandish dose would injure the animals and give the FDA an excuse to outlaw the product.
But wait, it gets even better. If one fish-oil manufacturer performs such a study and it passes, it doesn’t mean the other fish-oil makers can use the same data. No sir. They are still required to go out and do their own studies before they’re allowed to sell their product.
And these studies are very expensive. A study like the one above typically costs about $100,000-$200,000 to perform. Multiply that by several ingredients in several products, and you get an idea of the cost.
Say a company carries 6 products containing 6 ingredients each. It would cost between $3.6 and $7.2 million in studies before that company could even offer the products for sale. For a larger company offering 50 products or more, the costs would be astronomical.
Few supplement makers will be able to afford these studies, and many will be put out of business. And the ones that remain would still be at the mercy of the FDA’s whim. That’s because there are no requirements for the FDA to approve anything. They can approve or reject anything they want. And in the past, they have rejected the majority of ingredients submitted to them.
That means most of the nutrients you buy today will be pulled from the market and never return. Those that do return will be a lot more expensive — or may only be available as prescription drugs!

It is thought that this type of biology can be used to make T-cells, which may be able to fight cancers and other diseases which are typically incurable.  There is of course a debate  over making human cells out of non human materials. There is the argument that it is an unnatural process and that it should not be attempted even if it does have its benefits. It are the benefits however that scientists and other medical professionals are fighting for. Some countries have even gone as far as banning synthetic biology because they are afraid of the technology falling into the wrong hands.

At this point in time , the studies are only studies and nothing concrete has been invented or implemented. Even though synthetic cells have been created in labs, these cells have not been used in any current medical treatments. It could be years or even decades before the public would see any benefit from the study of synthetic biology, but this is a direction that medicine is keeping an eye out for.

There are several medical advance niches out there and this is just one of the newer studies happening. If synthetic biology does become a reality, it would be interesting to see what illnesses and diseases it could treat and cure.

Dream Control And Lucid Dreaming

Dream Control, or the ability to control your dreams is something that is crucially required or finds much importance in the subject of lucid dreaming. A lucid dreamer is that person who can successfully travel to the realm of dreams with full consciousness and a wakeful of mind. Thus, he only lets his body rest while his mind remains wakeful and focused and completely aware of its journey to the realm of dreams.

Thus, in lucid dreaming, you are fully aware that you are in a dream, but what is the advanced stage of lucid dreaming? Does it just end there with you being merely aware of being in a dream? The answer is no. Lucid dreaming in real sense of the term involves having full dream control where you not only are aware of the dream but can also manipulate it and change it so as to facilitate seeing or doing whatever is it that you desire.

A capability which is extremely tough to get a grip on, dream control requires focused effort and continuous practice in order to be able to master the art of letting only your body sleep and keeping your mind wakeful to experience a lucid dream. Maintaining the lucidity stage is highly difficult in the first place, but going beyond that, it must be said that having true dream control where you can actually manipulate and change your dreams requires focus, practice, use of specialized techniques and experience.

The main difficulty in dream control lies in continuing the lucidity part of it. For example, if you are dreaming that you are in a desert you may be able to make small changes like the direction in which you are going, etc. Suppose now, you want to see yourself riding a camel and fighting a huge gigantic scorpion, this kind of manipulation would require more force from you, which in turn makes you wake up. Moreover, in case of failed attempts, go on trying since frustration or distress would make you wake up all the more.

Firstly, when you are in lucid dreaming and you find it hard to hold on to your dream scenes and feel them slipping away or rather fading away, the best technique to use would be dream spinning. A highly effective tool in case of dream control, this needs you to stand in a spot and spin around like a kid. After your spin stops, you would find the scenes or settings around you have gained much clarity. Dream Spinning can also be used for changing the dream setting completely.

Verbal Affirmations or Commands is another effective way to administer dream control. If you feel your dream to be going out of your hand and you are not able to manipulate the change that you want, simply saying it out loud helps a lot. For example, you want to grow four hands but are not able to, just say it out loud. Think of it in your head and just say that you need four hands.

Thirdly, creativity is also a tool for increased dream control. If you want to do something in your dream and are not being able to make that change, do not get frustrated but try to creatively make that happen. E.g. you want to see green trees all around you but you are not able to manifest it, try to think of it as a wall and start painting the trees instead, the setting will come in a flash.

Another hindering factor in your dream control that you need to be aware of is false awakenings. Many a times it happens that you wake up from sleep in your dream and you mistake it as waking up in reality. The best thing to do is to do a reality check so that such false awakenings do not spoil your dream control.

Getting distressed and frustrated over repeated unsuccessful attempts at dream control is what makes you loose lucidity and wake up. So, never get distressed and remember that the above techniques would bail you out from any situation. Moreover, increased meditation would lead to greater control of mind, and the right attitude, that is, a belief in yourself that you can do whatever you are attempting to do, would take you along way in dream control.

Depression Help

Estimates are that almost 15 million Americans suffer from Depression, a serious problem.  Make no mistake, it is a real disease.  It’s not a reflection on the personal attributes of the patient despite it being a mental illness.  Depression can strike every person.  There’s no logic to its onset.  It can strike the rich or the poor.  Race or religion aren’t important.  The fact that you are suffering from this disease does not mean that you are less a human being.  The historic stereotypes associated with mental illness are meaningless.  The suffering associated with this disease will only get worse without treatment.  Pretending nothing is wrong won’t chase away this problem.  If a person doesn’t seek medical attention, the disease becomes worse until it dominates their entire life.

Depression can result from a number of sources.  This illness is more than just feeling sad and confused for a day or so.  Months or even years are the time frame in which depression plays.  Suicide often results from depression.  Early stages involve feelings of regret.  It can take from you the enjoyment that you once used to receive from your favorite activities.  You can experience loneliness and despair.  It could lead to feelings of failure and a sense of the future only getting worse.  Your entire personality can change as time passes.  It impacts every phase of life from work and school to at home.  Anxiety grows and sleep patterns change.

As previously stated there are many factors that lead to depression.  A major contributer is stress.  Stress itself has many causes such as losing a friend or being told you have a serious medical condition.  DNA is a factor. Stress Headache and Your Daily Life

The medical community has set out a well defined categorization of headaches.  The first category, that of the primary headache, is experienced by almost everyone throughout their lives.  The primary headache is by far the most common kind of headache, and is by definition not life threatening, nor indicative of any kind of neurological problem.  The cluster headache category causes far more pain and affects only a small segment of the population.  Cluster headaches are so called because of the random groupings in which they occur.  Patients can go pain free for years before suddenly suffering a rash of attacks.  Secondary headaches are classified as symptoms of a deeper neurological issue, such as internal bleeding, tumor growth, or chemical imbalance in the brain.  Cluster headaches and secondary headaches are far rarer than primary headaches.

The common stress headache falls into the primary category.  Although not life threatening, the stress headache can cause serious pain that is very discomforting.  In some cases, the common stress headache can become quite uncomfortable.  It is important that these cases be resolved as quickly as possible to avoid serious discomfort.  The first step in treatment is knowing the source of the issue.  Stress headache is believed to actually originate from a tightness of the cranial muscles.  The added pressure from this contraction introduces a painful and uncomfortable sensation.  The problem has nothing to do with any neurological issue, but rather with the tightness around the skull.
